Result: The city saves money on electricity costs, creates fewer greenhouse gases, and helps New England take steps towards energy independence and away from global warming!
Dear Needham Resident:
The Town of Needham is participating in the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Solar Challenge. In conjunction with the League of Women Voters and the Green Needham Collaborative, the Town is encouraging residents to make a contribution to the New England Wind Fund. A gift to the New England Wind Fund will provide the Town with funding for investments in clean energy projects. A contribution will help the New England Wind Fund invest in alterative energy technologies for the region, while also allowing the Town to make its own energy use more efficient. Projects that can be funded include hiring an energy consultant, investing in renewable energy, or establishing an energy task force.
As part of the challenge, if 150 residents make a one-time contribution of $100 or a monthly donation of $5 to the New England Wind Fund by April 30, 2008, the Town will receive a two kilowatt photovoltaic solar array to place on one of our public buildings.
Communities that have participated in this program have successfully incorporated the solar panel into their school curriculum, and have also received funding to invest in improvements to make municipal buildings more energy efficient.
Conserving energy is a priority for the Town of Needham, and all residents are encouraged to be mindful of the energy that they consume. If you are able, please help the Town of Needham reach its goal of 150 contributors!
Very truly yours
Board of Selectmen and Town Manager
