Clark Students Support Wind Power!

Clark University Campus

Last spring, Clark University students applying for campus housing were given a new choice. Did they want to offset the negative impact of their electrical use with clean wind power? Hundreds of students at this small liberal arts school made the clean energy choice. They elected to each contribute $30 to the New England Wind Fund, a new program administered by the Mass Energy Consumers Alliance.

Clark, located in downtown Worcester has a motto of “Challenge Convention, Change Our World". The University encourages its students to seek innovative solutions to crucial world problems. Students learned that their dependence on dirty energy sources such natural gas, coal, and oil, were harming our health and environment. The solution was to support clean and local wind power.

Their commitments were the first to the newly launched New England Wind Fund and make a wide impact. The $30 dollars each student contributed is double matched by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC). MTC will send matching funds to a fund for Worcester clean energy  programs and to a fund clean energy projects that benefit the state’s low-income residents.

On Oct. 25th an event will be held to recognize this new program. More details about level of participation will be released at this event.
